BODY OF WORK: TREE OF LIFE, 2022
East Asian aesthetics meets radical graphic reduction: viewed from a frog's-eye perspective, the tree detaches from its natural context, transforming into a subjectively constructed reality. Set against a warm, subtly yellowed ground that evokes the materiality of antique rice paper, the deep blacks of the branches slice through space like the powerful brushstrokes of an Asian ink wash drawing.
Within this strictly calligraphic grid unfolds a precisely balanced color harmony: the scattered, delicate pinks and deep reds break through the monochrome framework, condensing into a pulsating all-over. These organic points of color set luminous counterpoints to the severity of the black lines, generating a subtle chromatic tension. Stripped of ground and horizon, the photographic space loses its western central perspective; what remains is a meditative web that captivates the gaze between formal quietude and expressive color dynamics.

Conceived during a seemingly mundane walk in the Vienna Woods. The ambition was akin to reinventing the wheel: how do you strip such an overused motif as the tree from the clichés of classical nature photography? The solution lay not in the subject itself, but in the radical manipulation of its parameters. The deliberate use of punctuated color against harsh, deep-black contrasts fractures the organic structure, forcing a completely autonomous, artificial aesthetic.
