In his 2006 essay \"Between Imitation and Simulation \u2013 The Blurred Image,\" Bernd H\u00fcppauf addresses the phenomenon of the blurred image and its reception. According to H\u00fcppauf, blur is \"a visual simulation that violates the rules of imitation and documentation.\" Blur deprives the image of its status of singularity (cf. Where blur affects the entire photograph, the primary concern becomes the conveyance of a feeling or impression. The object is replaced by its representation or its symbol. The image turns into a sign, and photography\u2014grounded in the fundamentally pictorial constitution of the world\u2014is elevated to a universal language (cf.
